Contradictory Indonesia: will foreign tourists be allowed to Bali?

NEWS

Since yesterday evening, the media have been upsetting travellers with the fact that the opening of Indonesia’s borders for international tourism will be postponed until at least 2021. Indeed, one of the country’s government officials Luhut Binsar Panjaitan said the day before that in order to restore the tourism industry, the first thing to do is to focus on domestic tourism. “Let’s unite first! – called on the minister at yesterday’s webinar hosted by the Association of Indonesian Employers (APINDO).

Perhaps the Indonesian authorities have revised their position, which was voiced by the same official, by the way. A few days earlier Luhut Binsar Panjaitan claimed that the admission of tourists to Bali, in particular, may take place on September 11, 2020. It was about creating the notorious “tourist bubbles”, and as the closest and most real partners were called Australia and New Zealand. The same forecast was repeatedly made by the Governor of Bali Province, Wayan Koster.

There are several variants of development of events. The most probable – for Bali, as for the most popular among tourists region of Indonesia, in one degree or another will be made an exception.

Following yesterday’s announcement, an online petition has emerged calling for the resumption of tourism in Bali in September. You can sign it, by the way, by pre-registering!
