President Cyril Ramaphosa said in a televised address on Wednesday that South Africa would be open to travellers from all countries. This appeal was also published in the official Twitter account of the President.
“The Republic needs to stimulate the development of the tourism and hospitality sectors, despite the highest number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 on the continent”, the President said. At the same time it is planned to use express tests and strict monitoring to prevent the virus from entering the country.
No specific opening date was given.
Ramaphosa also said that alcohol sales will be limited on weekends and normal alcohol trading hours will be restored.
